How Date Difference Is Calculated
Days Between = End Date − Start Date
The calculation normalises both dates to noon on their respective calendar days, then takes the absolute difference in milliseconds and converts to days. This approach is immune to daylight saving time transitions.
From the total days, the calculator then derives: total weeks (days ÷ 7), whole weeks and remaining days, weekdays (Mon–Fri), weekend days (Sat–Sun), and an approximate month breakdown.

Weekday vs. Calendar Day
Calendar days include every day from start to end, including weekends and public holidays. This is the raw count most people think of when they say "how many days."
Weekdays (Monday through Friday) are the working days in the range. They are useful for estimating how much work time is available in a period. For deadline counting that excludes weekends, use the business days calculator. Note that the weekday count here does not subtract public holidays — that depends on your country and organisation.

How do I calculate the number of days between two dates?
Subtract the earlier date from the later date. Each calendar day is counted once. The result is the absolute number of days between the two dates regardless of direction.
What is the difference between calendar days and weekdays?
Calendar days count every day including Saturday and Sunday. Weekdays (also called business days or working days) count only Monday through Friday, skipping weekends.
How are months calculated between two dates?
Months are calculated using a calendar-aware breakdown: years × 12 plus remaining months. Because months have different lengths (28–31 days), this is not a simple division — the calculator tracks exact calendar positions.
Does the start date count in the total?
The default is exclusive: the start date is day 0 and the end date is day N. So January 1 to January 31 = 30 days. Toggle "Include start date" for inclusive counting (31 days in that example).
Can I calculate the difference between a past and future date?
Yes. Enter any two dates — past, present, or future — and the calculator returns the absolute difference. It shows the earlier date first regardless of which field you enter it in.
