What Are Business Days?
Business days — also called working days or weekdays — are the days of the week when most businesses, courts, and government offices operate: Monday through Friday. Saturday and Sunday are excluded.
Business day counts matter in many legal and financial contexts. Contracts, SLAs, court filing deadlines, credit card chargebacks, cheque clearing, and insurance claims are often measured in business days rather than calendar days.
How to Count Business Days
The algorithm walks each calendar day in the range and checks the day of the week. If it is Monday–Friday, it adds 1 to the business day count. If it is Saturday or Sunday, it adds to the weekend count instead.

A Note on Public Holidays
This calculator excludes only weekends. Public holidays — Christmas, Thanksgiving, Independence Day, and others — are not automatically excluded because they vary by country, state, and organisation. To get the true number of working days, subtract your observed public holidays from the business day count.

Public holidays differ by country, region, and employer. Excluding them accurately requires knowing your specific location and organisation's holiday schedule, which is beyond the scope of a general-purpose calculator. Add national holidays you observe to the weekend count manually.
How many business days are in a year?
A typical year has 260–262 business days (weekdays). Subtract observed public holidays — commonly 10–11 in the US — to get approximately 250 working days per year.
Is 5 business days the same as 1 week?
Almost. 5 business days span exactly 7 calendar days only if no weekend interrupts the start and end. If you start on Wednesday, 5 business days later is the following Wednesday — but that is 7 calendar days. Starting on Thursday, 5 business days takes you to the next Thursday, spanning 9 calendar days (crossing two weekend days).
